Building the concept

Several years ago, we were tasked with redesigning the first Hurst website and creating an accurate representation of their work. We always find it curious when people say, “I don’t want to spend the money because we don’t get many inquires from our website.” We can usually spot the core reasons immediately if that statement is even real. Websites are subject to an extreme level of snap judgments that directly influence perceptions of credibility as well as an immediate response to whether it jives with what the users are searching for. In Philip’s case, we saw mixed signals. Several years ago, Hurst was a rather traditional luxury custom home builder who occasionally built modern contemporary homes. But we could tell that something was quite different about the modern homes he was designing and building. We could see that this was where his “true passion” lived. At the time of the website development, we consulted Hurst to target a more modern buyers market. In fear of alienating traditional clients, Philip chose a more traditional look for the site that felt safe. Fast forward to 2020 and I think we’ve finally made a bigger impact with redesign number two, that will help Philip with the bottom line.

Early this year, we got challenged to rework the Hurst brand to a more modern style. We stripped the site to its most minimalist form and pushed everything to emphasize the quality of the imagery and the work itself. After all, the devil is in the details, and the work is the style.

The Hurst modern home style is quite classic and is rare in the “me too” builder market that seems to plague Raleigh. It makes a statement and resonates with clients seeking a more sophisticated modern, bold, and confident home design. We kept the site light and airy, including grays throughout the overall design with a touch of antique gold as an accent. We utilized striking high resolution black and white staff photography to create a dramatic yet nostalgic feel. After all, Hurst has been around the block for over three decades, building masterpiece homes.
